WITH just 10 days to go until Melbourne recommences its 2020 season, defender Adam Tomlinson says his side’s energy hasn’t wavered.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday morning, Tomlinson acknowledged that while the industry shutdown has made for some challenging circumstances, the Demons have maintained the right attitude in the lead up to Round 2.

And while they only have two more full-group training sessions before they take on Carlton, they’re certainly ready to go.

“It’ll be one more session on the weekend and then we’ll get our main session in next week and then the game to follow,” Tomlinson said.

“We make the most of it – it just means you give it your all when you’re out there. It just means what we do out there has the right intent and purpose.

“It’s not ideal, but at the same time, it’s exciting for everyone, because we’ve missed it for so long.

“We waited and trained so hard over the summer, to get back and play only one game and then have a big break, it just makes us even more excited.”

Following a disappointing Round 1 showing against West Coast, Melbourne will be out to restart their 2020 campaign on the right foot.

After reviewing the 27-point loss, both throughout the isolation period and upon returning to the club, the Dees are keen to execute what they’ve been training.

“A lot of our ball use just didn’t help us on the flipside when we tried to defend [against West Coast],” Tomlinson said.

“They’re a great defence and they’ve got some phenomenal players. [It was] just the way that we used the ball just didn’t really help us.

“It was a really good game for us to learn from and come up against one of the best defences in the competition.”

Having introduced full contact training last week, Tomlinson and his teammates have ramped up the intensity, with plenty relishing in the body-on-body work.

And with a clash against the Blues looming, they certainly aren’t slowing down.

“It’s hard to sort of see where everyone’s at (other teams), coming out of a period where no one’s really been training together,” Tomlinson said.

“All we know is we’ve put our best foot forward – we’ve trained as hard as we could outside of these four walls, when we were away from the footy club.

“Since we’ve been back, we’ve had a pretty tough first and second week, and it’s been really good to see everyone keep up with the training load.

“Obviously both teams are looking to go up the ladder, which just makes it more exciting.”

Melbourne will take on Carlton at Marvel Stadium on Saturday 13 June.
