AFLW round 2: Melbourne v Adelaide, Casey Fields, 5.05pm

Quarter-time: Melbourne 1.1 (7) to Adelaide 1.0 (6)

Melbourne started promisingly, with a nice tap from Lauren Pearce, down to Karen Paxman, which gave Alyssa Mifsud the opportunity to kick the opening goal - yet it registered a behind.

Speedster Aliesha Newman showed some run and dash with an incredible three-bounce effort and a fantastic kick across the body to open Melbourne's goal tally.

Meg Downie was again having a solid impact down back reading the play well.

Abbey Holmes kicked the first goal for Adelaide in the 11-minute mark.

Half time: Melbourne 5.2 (32) to Adelaide 2.0 (12)

Again, Melbourne started well with an early forward 50m entry to give Tegan Cunningham the opportunity to score, but with an inaccurate kick a minor score was recorded.

With some Daisy Pearce class through heavy traffic, Shelley Scott was the recipient of an easy goal from the square, which extended Melbourne's lead to eight points. Shortly afterwards, Emma Humphries and Richelle Crantston added to the scoreboard with further majors.

Melbourne seemed to be dominating the game and scored its third goal for the quarter through L.Pearce. Adelaide hit back soon after with a goal from outside 50m, when Jasmyn Hewett kicked truly.

After some grunt work from Melbourne's midfielders, via Paxman, Lily Mithen and Mel Hickey, Cunningham kicked her second and extended Melbourne’s lead to 20 points at half-time.

Three quarter time: Melbourne 7.4 (47) to Adelaide 3.0 (18)

Hickey got Melbourne off to the perfect start with a great goal across her body from 45m out. In what was a lacklustre quarter, Ruth Wallace got the Crows' first since the 12-miniute mark in the second quarter.

But Melbourne hit back with a goal through Cunningham.

The Demons went into the final quarter with a handy 28-point lead.

Fourth quarter: Melbourne 8.8 (56) d Adelaide 4.0 (24)

Melbourne dominated the last quarter with the ball constantly in its half. Newman again was explosive in her running and was able to kick Melbourne's first of the last term and extend its lead.

Late in the final term, Adelaide was able to peg one back with an easy goal from Genna McCormack.

Melbourne finished victors by 32 points, and remains undefeated after two rounds.
