Final quarter

With the match all but over, Melbourne managed to produce its best quarter, kicking four goals.

But the Lions still managed to win the final term, booting five majors.

In the end, the home side produced a comprehensive 61-point victory over an injury-hit and disappointing Melbourne.

Third quarter


Melbourne started the second half positively when Colin Garland converted after taking a fine outstretched mark.

But that was the red and blue’s only goal for the term, as the Lions added another four majors.

By the final break, the home side led by 54 points.

Second quarter


It proved to be a frustrating second term for the Demons. The Lions added a further three goals, as the Dees mustered just two behinds.

James Magner almost kicked Melbourne’s sole goal for the term, but hit the post just seconds before the half-time siren.

Melbourne entered the long break trailing by 34 points.

First quarter

The Lions started the match in excellent style, booting the first three goals.

It took 15 minutes before the Demons registered their first via Sam Blease, who started as a sub, before replacing the injured Tom McDonald.

Late in the term the Dees pegged the margin back to one point after goals from Jordie McKenzie and Colin Sylvia. But when Jonathan Brown kicked consecutive goals for the Lions, they took a 13-point lead into the first break.
