The opening term was an evenly fought contest, with the Saints leading by the narrowest of margins at the first break.
It was goal for goal early on, with Jesse Hogan registering two on the board just five minutes into the match.
The Saints took a nine-point lead into time-on, before Angus Brayshaw kicked truly, bringing the deficit back to a point.

The second termwas a fascinating quarter.
The Saintsdominated proceedings before time-on, booting four unanswered goals to lead by24 points.
But when Hoganbooted Melbourne’s first for the quarter at the 20-minute mark, it was thestart of a red and blue revival. The Demons booted five of the next seven goalsto peg the deficit back to just one goal at half-time. Hogan had four by themain break.
Third quarter: Melbourne 11.9 (75) to St Kilda 11.9(75)
The third termwas another see-sawing contest.
Melbournebooted the first three goals of the term – giving it six in a row from the28-minute mark of the second quarter – to lead by 12 points. Hogan addedanother to have five goals by the final break. He could’ve had six had he nothit the post.
But when theSaints booted the last two goals of the term and Tim Membrey landed a behindafter the three quarter-time siren, the scores were level entering the finalstanza.
Final quarter: St Kilda 12.13 (85) d Melbourne 12.11(83)
It was anincredible final term, with not one goal scored in the first 23 minutes.
Five behindswere registered, with St Kilda grabbing the lead again, after it booted fourbehinds to Melbourne’s one.
It wasn’t untilthe 24-minute mark when Jeremy Howe kicked his first for the day that theDemons were back in front.
But when LeighMontagna responded a minute later – St Kilda took a two-point lead and won thematch.
