FORWARD line development coach Paul Satterley reviews the Melbourne-listed players who played in Casey’s 68-point win against Frankston in round one at Casey Fields on Sunday
Dom Barry: In his first VFL game, Dom worked himself into the game and was a good contributor in the second half. Dom has been playing on the wing and is being encouraged to run and carry, and back his pace.
Rohan Bail: This was Rohan's first game as he missed all pre-season matches due to his concussion. Rohan was very good; he was tested physically and worked hard as a forward finishing with 20 disposals and two goals.
Mitch Clisby: Mitch is playing some quality football and his speed and efficiency by foot has been a highlight. He had 23 disposals from half-back.
Tom Couch: Tom has started the season strongly. His first possession work at stoppages was clean and his use of the ball by hand and foot was good. He finished with eight hard ball gets, eight inside 50s and 32 disposals.
Michael Evans: Michael played a really good game on the wing. His speed and willingness to run and carry was very good. His 22 possessions were quality and included eight inside 50s.
Max Gawn: Max backed up his positive return to football last week with another dominant display. He had 20 disposals, 20 hit outs, nine marks and kicked two goals. Max also led the team tackle count – it was an excellent contribution. He continues to make gains in his match fitness.
Jesse Hogan: Making his debut in senior footy, Jesse competed strongly as a tall forward. He took six marks and kicked two goals.
Neville Jetta: Played forward and back and was able to adapt very quickly to the requirements of each role. He competed strongly in the air as a defender and generated three shots on goal for 1.2 as a forward.
Dean Kent: Played under duress with illness and showed some grit to play a solid game. He kicked an exceptional goal and again backed his speed to take the game on, winning 15 disposals and 7 inside 50s.
James Magner: Jimmy had 34 disposals, 10 marks and led the team with 12 hard ball gets. He also kicked a goal. Jimmy played a very good game and led the way for the team.
Cam Pedersen: Cam was required to play in defence, as Troy Davis withdrew from the game with illness. In a much improved performance, Cam finished with 21 disposals and took 11 marks, which included a couple going back with the flight. Cam will take plenty of confidence from this game.
Jake Spencer: Jake teamed up with Max Gawn. Both gave a contest around the ground with their ruck work. Jake also spent some time as a key forward and is working hard to add this role to his game.
James Strauss: James was given the task of negating a dangerous forward and did this well. It was a good effort by James.
Luke Tapscott: Kicked five first half goals and finished with 6.2 for the game. His 23 disposals and nine marks is exactly what is expected of him, and he was rewarded for his high work ethic and attack on the ball.
Josh Tynan: Josh played with speed and found the right balance between offence and defence. He had 18 disposals and took seven marks and made a good contribution to the team.
AFL Victoria Development League
Rory Taggert: Rory played in the Casey Development side and worked extremely hard. He finished with 20 disposals and laid a number of good tackles.
