COACH Mark Neeld says a handful of Melbourne listed players who impressed for Casey last weekend are pressing to be recalled for Saturday’s clash against Greater Western Sydney at Manuka Oval.

Neeld flagged big man Jack Fitzpatrick, midfielder Jordan Gysberts and rookies Tom Couch and Michael Evans as possible inclusions this round. The quartet impressed Neeld with their performances against Geelong at Casey Fields in the VFL last Sunday.

“Jack’s had a big year - we know he’s been diagnosed with diabetes, and he’s learning to live with that. He kicked five goals on the weekend and was really a stand out player for us,” Neeld told the ‘Coach’s Office’ on DeeTV.

“Tom Couch was another good performer, and Jordan Gysberts was a good performer and young Michael Evans, who has been out all year, has now played four games back.

“So they’re the players that we’d be looking for this week.”

Neeld said Gysberts, who played his one and only match this season in round 19, had endured a trying season with injury. But he said Neeld was pleased to see Gysberts and Evans work well together in the midfield last weekend.

“[It’s been a] frustrating year for Jordan and the footy club,” he said.

“He had a syndesmosis injury in the ankle, which kept him out for a long time early [in the season] and then he came back from a broken jaw, so he’s just starting to string together some games.

“He’s been in for one senior game, and he went back on the weekend and really showed some glimpses of a good, quality player. So we just need to get some consistency into Jordan’s game and into his preparation, just purely by not getting injured.”
