Time to get tough Melbourne

By Shane Crawford

MELBOURNE'S decision to strip Brent Moloney of the club's vice-captaincy after a late night drinking session last Sunday was a cop-out. They should have dropped him from its match against Gold Coast at the Gabba as punishment.
Moloney made a major mistake by being out drinking at 3am after last Sunday's game against the Brisbane Lions. But the Demons also made an error by not leaving him out.

Ablett injury a setback for Suns' hopes
By The Age

GOLD Coast's hopes of upsetting an inconsistent Melbourne at the Gabba today suffered a major setback after skipper Gary Ablett withdrew because of a calf injury. Gold Coast assistant coach Shane O'Bree confirmed Ablett would not line up against the Demons, robbing the Suns of their gun midfielder. Yesterday afternoon, Ablett tweeted: ''Shattered not to be out there with the boys tomorrow! The body just won't give me a break! Must be old age haha.'' Key defender Campbell Brown will miss a month because of suspension and free-running backman Nathan Krakouer was dropped. Ablett's replacement will not be named until the official team sheet handover before the clash. Who gets the call-up will depend on weather conditions. Waiting in the wings for the tap on the shoulder are first-year trio Alik Magin, Hayden Jolly and Jack Hutchins.
