WHEN the going gets tough, there’s nobody out there to equal the volunteers of the Melbourne Football Club.
Part of a grand tradition of contributing that extends back decades, the Club’s volunteer telemarketers – themselves the keenest of members - were back at the MCG on Tuesday night. Despite being given the option of taking a break after the weekend’s loss, they turned up determined to continue their efforts.
With two newcomers in their ranks, the evening no doubt posed a challenge – but our volunteers were up to the task, taking to the phones with the same enthusiasm as they have over past weeks, and as they will continue doing until there’s nobody left to call and encourage, remind or even cajole into renewing for Season 2013.
The good spirit of the volunteers is a special quality, and one which directly translates to members themselves. While there were obviously difficult conversations and shared disappointment, the message coming back overwhelmingly from the Club’s members is the realisation that now, more than ever, is the time to show support, and that they appreciate the message to keep being part of the Club. Some are getting ready to sign up family members, and others are rounding up friends.
With around 30 renewals confirmed in a couple of hours last night courtesy of our volunteers’ efforts, yet others are preparing to also sort out their own renewals in coming weeks. They can be rest assured that they’ll be receiving a friendly reminder call along the way, and for that, we can thank our volunteers. They will be back in action tonight!
Membership Volunteers
The Melbourne Football Club conducts an ongoing program of volunteers assisting with phone calls to unrenewed members. Calls are made two nights per week from the MCG administration offices, and full training and support is provided. If you are interested in volunteering your time to this program or would like to learn more, please contact Fiona Trewhitt, Membership Manager, on (03) 9652 1119 or email fiona.trewhitt@melbournefc.com.au.
