RED-hot Demon Lynden Dunn says he’s not sure if last round’s effort against Essendon was his finest yet at AFL level, but he was certainly pleased with his performance.

Dunn, who played a sterling role in Melbourne’s one-point win at the MCG, accumulated a career-best 29 disposals and had a game-high 16 rebounds, as he shone from defence.

“It’d be nice to get to 31 disposals,” he told melbournefc.com.au with a laugh.

“That’s just a byproduct of what I do during training and during the week on my own game and the opposition. I’m happy to be playing well and I’m even more happy that the team is having a win.”

“It’s funny. The game went so quickly and then the second half was such a turnaround from the first-half that it was a bit of a blur.”

“It’s nice to be in a bit of a purple patch of form, but I’m just more than happy that we got over the line and we were able to sing the song at the end of the game – that was the most important thing to me.

Dunn said the Demons had spoken about the opportunity of winning consecutive matches for the first time since rounds 13 and 14, 2011 against North Melbourne at the MCG on Sunday.

“Two in a row would be a great stepping stone for the footy club,” he said.

“It’s the old cliché of one week at a time, but we’ve got a win on the board now from last week and it’s really important for our footy club that we move forward and start building on each week and after each win.

“It’s a big week for the footy club.”

Meanwhile, Dunn said it was a “great honour for Jim and his family” with the unveiling of the Jim Stynes Bridge at Docklands during the week.

“I thought Sam [Stynes] spoke really well [at the launch] about Jim’s journeys that he had along the way, and the way he inspired others – especially young people – with their journeys,” he said.

“He helped them get over obstacles and from one place to another, so I think it’s really important – and what a great honour for the family.”
