JORDAN Lewis says a win is all co-captain Nathan Jones wants for his 250th AFL game – nothing more or nothing less.

Speaking upon arrival at Etihad Stadium on Saturday, in the lead-up to Melbourne’s away clash against the Western Bulldogs, Lewis said it was crucial to perform on the skipper's milestone game.

“It’s important to celebrate achievements like that and we did that yesterday (Friday) via a video that ex-players and current players spoke on,” he told Melbourne Media

“All Nath wants today, probably, is for us to play well and to have a win.

“In the back of our mind, we understand it’s a big occasion, but we need to go out there and win to make it even more special.

“Nath’s played 250 games for one club, which is a great achievement, through some really tough times.

“As players – he’s our captain – we want to go out there and play well for him, no doubt.”

Lewis said Jones was a fierce opponent when he played at Hawthorn, and a great teammate at Melbourne.

“You’ve got a guy who will fight tooth and nail for a win, and certainly when we came up against him as a Hawthorn player, he was someone we channelled a lot of energy and thought into,” he said.

“We probably butted heads as opposition players, but certainly playing with each other, it gives us great confidence that you can have a lot of trust in him.”

Although Melbourne is aiming for six in a row for the first time since 2006, Lewis said it wasn’t a major focus in the team’s preparation.

“The environment around the football club now is week-to-week and as players you can’t get drawn into ladder position,” he said.

“We need to look a bit deeper than that and understand why the Western Bulldogs have put some quarters together and what they’re really good at, and try to nullify that.

“That’s what the week has been and it hasn’t really changed or we haven’t focused on how many wins we can get.”
