MELBOURNE coach Simon Goodwin will take part in Big Freeze 4, as all 18 AFL coaches prepare to go down the slide for FightMND.
Goodwin will be joined by Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley ahead of the annual Queen’s Birthday clash, while the competition’s remaining coaches will travel from around Australia to plunge into the icy cold water at the MCG on June 11.
The inspirational Neale Daniher confirmed the news on Friday night, saying it was a remarkable effort.
“It’s amazing, to have the whole 18 supporting the day is not only generous, selfless, it shows great leadership,” he said on Channel 7.
“At this time of the year, the coaches are looking for a break and now they’re getting involved.
“It’s totally overwhelming.”
Now in its fourth year, the televised event has previously brought together sporting greats and personalities, in a bid to raise funds and awareness for motor neurone disease (MND).
Australia’s most successful fundraising campaign for the devastating illness, FightMND has seen over $40 million raised for research, care, clinical trials and drug development.
But Daniher said there’s plenty more to do.
“It’s not my work. We’ve got so many people in the FightMND army.”
“We’ve made great progress, we’re learning a lot more but there is a lot more to do and that’s why we need your help.
“We’re not giving up, we won’t give in.”
Football fans can donate to the cause, purchasing a beanie in support of finding a treatment and cure.
With all coaches taking part, Daniher urged supporters of every club to dig deep.
“They’re on board, now we need you to get on board.”
