COACH Paul Roos says last round’s 105-point loss to Hawthorn was not reviewed and the players and coaches were “off site” from AAMI Park on Monday and Tuesday.
Roos said the team trained at Casey Fields on Wednesday, before returning to AAMI Park later that afternoon to help mix up the week.
“We just wanted to change the environment and we’ve got a younger group as well, so they’re clearly starting to feel the pinch as well and that showed on Saturday,” he said.
“We had a good meeting as coaches on Monday and tried to go through some of the things that we think we can address and fix in the short-term.
“Part of that was not reviewing the game and going off site for a few days, and we had lunch together as a group. We just tried to do some things to freshen the group up.”
Roos said the majority of the Melbourne list was in the “here and now” and not looking back on the club’s recent past.
“They’re really optimistic and not too scarred from what’s happened in the past,” he said.
“There is a small group that is still here, so you address those things.
“The majority of the group says ‘this is the way we want to play and like we did in the first month’.
“We’ve since played three really, really good teams, so let’s get back to playing some good footy this week.”
