CASEY's rise up the ladder continued on Sunday with the Scorpions running away with a comprehensive 49-point win over Port Melbourne.
The Scorpions led from start to finish as Casey Fields bore the brunt of Melbourne's arctic snap – eventually winning 10.9 (69) to the Borough's 2.8 (20).
Viv Michie and Mark Jamar combined well again to lead the way for the home side and continue to push their case for a senior recall through consistent VFL form.
Matt Jones booted the only major of the first term as both sides adjusted to the sloppy conditions. From the outset it was obvious clean play was going to be rare.
Tom Papley backed up his solid debut last week with the first goal of the second term, before the visitors hit back with consecutive goals. But Michie and Ed Morris gave the Scorpions some breathing space at the long interval taking in a 14-point advantage.
The dreary skies failed to clear throughout the afternoon, but the Scorpions clicked into gear to take the game away from the Borough in the third quarter.
The visitors had no response and could only manage two behinds as the Scorpions kicked four, including two from Jayden Hunt and singles from Aidan Riley and Jack Grimes.
With the game on ice at three quarter-time, the Scorpions added two more goals in the final term and again restricted the Borough, who didn't score a major after half-time.
Michie was the standout for the home side, relishing the trying conditions to gather 31 disposals, which included three inside 50s and a goal.
The Scorpions dominated the hit outs 106 to 56 and the clearances 65 to 45 with Jamar influential around the stoppages. The veteran ruckman gathered 23 possessions.
Aidan Riley impressed with 26 disposals and laid six tackles, and Dean Terlich picked up 17 touches.
Although Grimes and Ben Newton didn't see as much of the ball with 13 and 15 disposals respectively, they were prolific without it, laying 14 and 10 tackles.
The win sees Casey into sixth spot on the ladder with only percentage keeping them from the top four. Percentage separates Footscray in fourth, Essendon, Casey, Werribee and Collingwood.
The Scorpions will be expected to win again on Saturday when they travel to IKON Park to take on the Northern Blues from 2pm.
