JAYDEN Hunt says he hasn’t set a goal to make his AFL debut by the end of the 2015 season, but if he does, he will have earned it.
The dashing utility, who has had a tough run with injury – predominantly a two separate back issues – in his first two seasons, said his main focus was to keep improving each week.
“[My aim is] not so much to play [AFL footy this year], but the goal is to really improve each week and put my name out there,” he told Dee TV.
“That’s up to me – and if I get the spot, it’ll be deserved.
“So that’s my major aim – to improve each week and show what I can do.”
Hunt, who returned in May from his long layoff – playing five matches in the AFL Victoria Development League and the past two in the VFL – said he was making the most of his opportunities playing senior footy for Casey.
“It’s great. I’ve been moved to the forward now, which is really fun and I’ve been enjoying that role,” he said.
“I’m looking forward to building my performances with eight or so weeks left, so I can really show what I can do and we’ll see what happens.”
Hunt said the fact that he was back out on the paddock was the most enjoyable aspect of his game at the moment.
“I’ve been at the club for two years now, but I haven’t been out on the park much, just because I’ve had a couple of back injuries,” he said.
“When I finally got back to playing in the Development League over a month ago, I got back and played a few games and then broke my jaw.
“I missed another couple of weeks, but [I’m] all good now and I’m back in the VFL side. I’m starting to string along some performances now and I’m looking forward to the rest of the year to actually show what I can do.”
