MELBOURNE has observed a minute’s silence on Remembrance Day.

The players and coaches were training at Gosch’s Paddock on Wednesday morning, before they stopped just before 11am.

They then came together in the middle of the oval – at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month – to remember those who died and suffered for Australia in all wars and armed conflicts.

Originally known as Armistice Day in Australia – to honour those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in World War I – it was later renamed Remembrance Day after World Warr II to also commemorate those who died in the Second World War.

Today, Remembrance Day honours all Australian lives lost and suffered in war and armed conflicts.

This year is the 97th anniversary of the Armistice, which ended the First World War (1914–18).
