MIDFIELDER Dom Tyson says the Demons are eager to turn the tables against the Saints at the MCG on Sunday, after Melbourne was “stung a bit” when it went down to St Kilda by two points at Etihad Stadium in round 11.
Tyson, speaking at a media conference at AAMI Park on Wednesday, said the loss against the Saints, a little more than a month ago, was a big opportunity missed.
“It doesn’t seem long ago that we played them and it was a really good game,” he said.
“They came away with a win last time and we’re certainly looking to bounce back. They’re pretty similar to us – they’ve been a little bit up and down. They’ve played some really good footy at times.
“We’ll have to be right on our game, because it’ll be a tough contest. They have a good young list, so hopefully they’re a side we’ll play big games [against] in the years to come.
“It was a game they (St Kilda) were rapt to win. It was pretty tight all day and the last quarter I think there were only two goals kicked in the last two minutes, so it’ll certainly be a tough contest again this week.”
Tyson said the team had learned plenty from its most recent encounter against the Saints.
“We did look into a few things from that game and the last few minutes weren’t great,” he said.
“We didn’t play our roles exactly how we wanted to, so we’ll go through the normal process to preview the game and look at ways we can break them down from using some clips in the last game.
“We’ll probably do that a bit later in the week.
As for who has the better list? Tyson said with a laugh “we’ll find out on the weekend".
“They’ve got some really good young players and some really good senior players still playing some good footy. They’ve got a good balanced list," he said.
“I’m just looking forward to the game to be honest.”
Meanwhile, Tyson praised St Kilda captain Nick Riewoldt to play with a calf niggle in last round’s loss against Richmond at Etihad Stadium, which was the first Maddie Riewoldt’s Vision (MRV) fundraiser match.
“It was a great effort for him to get up and play in that match against Richmond ... he’s a superstar, so we’ll see what happens [and he pulls up from that injury this round],” he said.
