DANIEL Cross is not entering 2015 thinking it will be his last AFL season.
Cross, who will be 32 years old at the start of the premiership season next year, said he will simply “see what pans out next year”.
“Not being able to look into the future, it’s hard to know. Even through my good years, I’ve never been comfortable in my position in the team and that’s held me in really good stead. When you’re on the edge – that’s when you produce your best results,” he told Dee TV.
“That’s the same way I’ll be going about my pre-season and I’m lucky in a sense that I love training and I really love being fit and healthy and working towards a common goal – that’s what I’ll be doing again this year.”
“At my age, you’ve always got to think that it could be your last year and treat it as your last year, but I’m definitely not going to put a ceiling on myself and say ‘this is it, I’m going to hang them up after this year’.
“If I’m still playing really well and contributing to the team and they still want me – and my body’s still feeling good, then I’ll definitely go again. But it’s too hard to see in the future, but that’s where I sit on it at the moment.”
Cross said the Bulldogs had several young players coming through their list, which pushed him aside at the end of 2013, but he said not all decisions should be dictated by age.
“They had some super young players coming through and maybe there wasn’t a spot there for that reason, but to think that just because you hit an age that your time’s up is ridiculous,” he said.
“When you put your mind to something I think you can achieve exactly what you want – and that’s what I did.
“I think you’ll always been held in good stead if you always have a [hard working] attitude and if you don’t make it – then at least you can rest easy making sure you gave it your absolute best shot.
“I’ll never put a ceiling on myself and we’ll just keep pushing along and see where that takes me.”
