The Demons have brought in mature rookie James Magner, utility Cale Morton, hard-nut Luke Tapscott, midfielder Jordan Gysberts, big man Jack Fitzpatrick and defender Josh Tynan into their 25-man squad.
The six players have been named on the extended bench, along with James Strauss, who was Melbourne’s substitute last round.
As expected the Demons have lost the versatile Neville Jetta for one match through suspension and the pacy Daniel Nicholson (jaw) for the next two to three weeks.
Football manager Josh Mahoney was hopeful Martin would return to the side quickly.
“Stef reported foot soreness following the game against the Kangaroos,” he told melbournefc.com.au.
“We’re hoping this’ll be a short term injury.”
Mahoney said it was frustrating to lose Jetta, as he had just returned to the side in round 17 after missing most of the season with an ankle injury.
“It’s always disappointing to lose fit players through suspension,” Mahoney said.
“However, this presents opportunities for players who have been performing at Casey.
“With already three forced changes we’ll finalise our 22 on Friday.”
Magner is back in contention after being an emergency last round. He has played all but two matches in his first AFL season.
Morton is also back in the mix, after not playing since round 11 against Collingwood in the Queen’s Birthday clash. He has made eight appearances this year.
After missing rounds 16 and 17 with a groin injury, Tapscott played for Casey against Frankston last Saturday.
Gysberts, who has played 18 matches after debuting in 2010, is in line to play his first match this season, after suffering ankle and jaw injuries earlier in the year.
And Fitzpatrick and Tynan are a chance to play their second game each for the season.
Melbourne will finalise its 22 on Friday afternoon.
