FIRST-year Demon Angus Brayshaw says his team simply failed to bring the encouraging form it had produced for most of its opening four rounds, before it succumbed to 68-point loss to Fremantle at the MCG on Sunday.

Speaking to melbournefc.com.au post-match, Brayshaw said Melbourne wasn’t able to bring the type of form it showed for most of April.

“What was most disappointing is that we weren’t playing the way that we can show we can play,” he said.

“We’d played three and a half good games – minus the second half against GWS [in round two] – up until this round, so we know we can play well.

“We know that we can compete, when we play our best footy, so we’ve just got to learn and take lessons from this and improve.

“We’ve just got to look to next week and bring that competitiveness back and play like we know we can against Sydney.”

Brayshaw, in just his fifth AFL match, was one of the positives against Fremantle, as he collected a personal-best 16 touches, plus six marks, four tackles and a goal.

Despite his continued progress, Brayshaw said it was all about the team.

“At the end of the day we lost, but I’m just trying to play my role,” he said.

“It wasn’t enough to get the team across the line, and not everyone was playing their role, so there are some things that I can definitely improve on.

“I’m looking forward to next week, if I’m not dropped, so that’s all I can do. I’ll look at the film [in review] and try and improve, like I’m sure everyone else will.”
