Melbourne supporter David Coggins shows his passion for the red and blue
I HAVE always followed the mighty Demons - my dad and me at the 'G are some of the fondest memories of my childhood.
Growing up with Stinga and Gazza adorning my bedroom walls, I would reenact commentary and all in my backyard as Gazza kicked the winning goal in the Grand Final (five points down … siren gone … on the boundary … bang through she goes … Demons win!)
My connection with the Dees is growing by the day - through Jimmy I feel proud and inspired with his courage and determination, through our CEO Cameron Schwab I identify with the Club through his insights into our rich history and his plan for the future … I buy into it … feel a part of it, and can’t wait for the future.
Sadly, my dad unexpectedly passed away a few years ago.
He loved the Dees, and through his love my passion for the red and blue was fostered.
While interstate at university I would cherish our weekly Tuesday chats where we would dissect the previous week’s game, critique the young blokes and optimistically predict a win the following week.
These chats and indeed the Melbourne Football Club brought us together - a common love.
When dad died, we decided in lieu of flowers to accept donations towards Debt Demolition…I don’t even know how much we made, I put it all in a envelope, drove to the ‘G, walked into the Club and asked to give it to Jimmy. Jim did receive our donation, and the heartfelt letter he wrote me will forever be cherished.
Yep, I love this club and feel my support for the Dees brings me closer to dad. I know he’s watching up there and critiquing a young Scully, being excited by a young Trengove, and patient about a young Watts.
Go Dees
