MELBOURNE has shown its support for Melbourne City Mission’s ‘Sleep at the ’G’ event for the third year running.

Footballers Jack Watts and Chris Dawes were involved in promoting the event, which is one of Melbourne City Mission’s key initiatives in raising awareness of youth homelessness.

Approximately 6,000 young people are homeless each night in Victoria and forced to ‘couch surf’ or ‘sleep rough’.

First taking place in 2013, ‘Sleep at the ’G’ encourages people to ‘sleep rough’ inside the MCG to raise funds to help break the cycle of youth homelessness.

More than $465,000 has been raised by the 2015 event to date.

Watts and Dawes spoke at a function on the night, while nine Melbourne Football Club staff participated in the event, raising more than $3,000 in the process.

Melbourne City Mission is one of the club’s main charity partners.

Watts and Dawes are club ambassadors for the charity, which works with some of Melbourne and Victoria’s most vulnerable and disadvantaged individuals and families.
