COACH Paul Roos says the No.1 ruck position for Saturday’s clash against Hawthorn at the MCG has yet to be determined, after Jake Spencer came in for Mark Jamar last round.
Jamar, who had played every match up until Saturday night’s loss against the Sydney Swans at the MCG, played for Casey against Sandringham at Casey Fields on Saturday. Instead, Spencer came in for his first match of the season.
Roos said Spencer had played well against the Swans, but it was yet to be known which ruckman would line-up against the Hawks.
“It’s hard to ruck week in, week out and we thought ‘Pence’ (Spencer) did a pretty good job on the weekend and ‘Russian’ (Jamar) hasn’t been out of form,” he said.
“They’re the decisions [you’ve got to make], particularly when you’re going through a tough patch of rounds against big, strong opposition teams and ruckmen.
“We’ll discuss all of that during the week.”
Meanwhile, Roos said former Demon and first-year Hawk James Frawley was “a ripping fella” and only had good things to say about him.
The Demons could come up against Frawley, who is a chance to return this round from a pectoral injury, which has sidelined him since round two.
Frawley joined Hawthorn at the end of last season as a free agent.
“He’s really well liked among his peers here, so I would think the players would look forward to playing against him,” Roos said.
“He’s now in another jumper and I think a lot of [the players] would’ve sent him a text prior to the season to wish him all the best.
“You never like to see guys get injured, so it’ll be good to see him back from his point of view.”
