CASEY has won a two-point thriller against Richmond at Punt Road Oval on Sunday afternoon.

The Scorpions 11.12 (78) defeated the Tigers 11.10 (76) to continue their outstanding season, which sees them remain on top of the VFL ladder with nine wins and two losses for the season.

Midfielder Viv Michie had a team-high 31 disposals.

Former Melbourne co-captain Jack Grimes had 29 touches and second-year player Alex Neal-Bullen had 27 possessions and chipped in with a goal.

Youngsters Clayton Oliver (24) and Angus Brayshaw (22) were also among Casey’s leading ball-winners.

Casey listed-player Tim Smith booted five goals, while emerging Melbourne talls Liam Hulett and Sam Weideman kicked one major each.

Hulett got the ball rolling for Casey in the first quarter and soon the Scorpions led by 21 points before the Tigers opened their account.

By quarter-time, Brayshaw had 12 touches, Michie (11), Grimes (10) and Neal-Bullen (10).

It became a see-sawing contest, with Richmond leveling the scores, before the Scorpions managed to hold sway by three points at half-time.

The scores were all tied up at three quarter-time, before Casey managed to win a nail-biter.

Casey has its third bye for the season next weekend.
