AN EVEN greater glimpse into Melbourne’s future will be on show at the MCG on Saturday, when the club’s top two picks from the 2014-15 drafts will play together for the first time in an AFL match.

With Sam Weideman (the No.9 pick in the 2015 NAB AFL Draft) set to make his debut against Hawthorn, Melbourne will also welcome back Clayton Oliver, who was selected at No.4 last year, into the side.

They will join Christian Petracca (No.2 in the 2014 NAB AFL Draft) and Angus Brayshaw (No.3).

Coach Paul Roos said he couldn’t wait to see the quartet run out together.

“It’s pretty exciting and the good thing is that they’ve all earned their spot,” he said on Roos’ Views.

“Petracca has been really good all year, Braysh is a different player since he’s come back – he’s got a lot more energy and he’s getting around the ground.

“Weideman we’re seeing for the first time and Oliver we saw earlier in the year probably drop off, but I expect him to play well on the weekend. He looks a lot fitter and healthier and he had a bit of a break during the middle of the year. He’s been working really hard in the past month.”

It highlights another youthful, yet exciting side for Melbourne this round.

Melbourne enters this weekend with just five players who have played 100 games or more: Nathan Jones (219 games), Bernie Vince (189), Jeff Garlett (143), Jack Watts (133) and Tom McDonald (100).

Another five sit between 50 and 100 games: Neville Jetta (90), Tomas Bugg (79), Dom Tyson (67), Jack Viney (66) and Max Gawn (57).

And Melbourne will enter the match with 12 players having played 50 games or fewer, with Dean Kent set to play his 50th game against the Hawks.

The others are: Jesse Hogan (38), Sam Frost (36), Brayshaw (27), James Harmes (24), Aaron vandenBerg (24), Billy Stretch (23), Jayden Hunt (15), Oscar McDonald (13), Petracca (13), Oliver (10) and Weideman (0).
