JOSH Mahoney says the club will keep talking to key forward Jesse Hogan about his playing future with Melbourne.
Mahoney said nothing had changed with its plan on Hogan, who is contracted until the end of the 2017 season.
“The whole thing that we’re trying to do is create a really good environment,” he told 1116 SEN on Thursday.
“We sat down with Jesse at the start of the year and said ‘these are the things that we’re going to do as a club’.
“I think we’ve committed to all of those things and we’ve shown that, so the next step for us is to continue to talk to him and at the right time, he’ll come to us and say he’s happy to do something.”
Meanwhile, Mahoney said the club was speaking with former co-captains Jack Grimes and Jack Trengove about their futures.
“We’re speaking with a group of guys at the moment,” he said.
“We’ve still got quite a few out of contract, so it’s an important time for those guys … I’ve been through it as a player myself and it can be really stressful – not knowing what’s actually going on, so we’ve got to make sure we keep speaking to those guys.
“In the end, it’s going to be decisions that we’re going to make quite late on a group of players and it depends on the players we’ve got, the list size that we’re running with and how many guys we’re going to bring in through trade period.
“It’s a pretty nerve-racking time for a lot of players across, not only our club, but across the AFL.”
