Tom Cutler picked up 26 disposals and registered 1.2 in his bid to return to the senior side, as the Lions went down, 3.7 (25) to 24.16 (160).

The only others to kick goals were Trent West and Josh Clayton. The pair also picked up their fair share of the ball, with 20 and 25 disposals respectively.

Former Collingwood player Jackson Paine had 22 disposals and 12 marks while forward Michael Close was also prominent in the air, with 19 disposals and 10 marks.

Academy prospects Jacob Allison (11 disposals) and Connor Ballenden (10 disposals, no scoreboard impact) were kept quiet.

Allison is eligible to be drafted this year while Ballenden already looms as one of the top picks for 2017, with recruiters excited about the key forward's abilities.

Carlton

Axed utility Andrejs Everitt could find himself earning an immediate recall after impressing with five goals in the Blues' disappointing 44-point loss to the Tigers.

The 27-year-old worked tirelessly to provide a forward outlet and also registered 15 disposals and seven marks.

Everitt was backed up by maligned forward Liam Jones who registered five contested marks and a goal.

Midfielder Mark Whiley (27 disposals, eight tackles) was once again the most consistent performer of the Blues' inexperienced group, while Jason Tutt (26 touches, nine marks) was equally as prominent.

Tall Kristian Jaksch joined the pair among the best, after ending with 17 disposals, seven marks and a goal.

Collingwood

This weekend: Collingwood v Coburg - Saturday August 6, 1pm, Holden Centre

Defender Tyson Goldsack took the honours for the Magpies in their 68-point win, generating plenty of speed from half-back and repelling Coburg's attacks.

Defender-turned-forward Adam Oxley, Corey Gault and Brent Macaffer registered three goals apiece, while axed midfielder Jordan De Goey added two majors in his first VFL game of the season.

Youngster Matthew Goodyear returned after missing last week due to illness and also registered two goals.

Ruckman Jarrod Witts got through unscathed in his comeback from a dislocated finger, but faces an anxious wait after being reported for striking in the final quarter.

Essendon

Experienced midfielder Jonathan Simpkin played a lone hand for the Bombers in their 86-point drubbing, ending the one-sided affair with 28 disposals.

Fellow top-up recruit Ryan Crowley also tried hard for his 26 possessions, while draftee Mason Redman kicked one of his side's six goals for the match in an otherwise tough night.

Defender Nathan Grima, who was scheduled to play his first game in about three months, was withdrawn due to a back complaint.

Fremantle

After finding some touch last week with three goals, luckless Docker Anthony Morabito added another string to his bow with 26 touches in Peel’s 36-point victory. 

Axed midfielder Matt De Boer was also prolific with a game-high 39 disposals to claim best-on-ground honours.

Matthew Taberner also responded to being omitted for the Western Derby with 23 touches, eight marks and two goals. Utility Tendai Mzungu (35 touches, 11 marks and a goal) was also named among the best. 

Rebouding defenders Nic Suban (20 disposals, nine marks) and Connor Blakely (22 touches, six tackles) were both prominent.

Geelong

Exciting speedster Darcy Lang put in a solid display in his team's 101-point landslide, finishing with a team-high 32 touches, seven marks, seven tackles and a goal.

Midfielder George Horlin-Smith was next on the stats sheet with 25 possessions, six tackles, six inside 50s and a goal.

Draftee James Parsons showed off his outside run and was rewarded with 22 touches, seven tackles and a goal to cap the Cats' comprehensive victory.

In attack, Mitch Clark and Shane Kersten registered three and two majors respectively.

Gold Coast

Rebounding defender Adam Saad collected 17 disposals in his second consecutive match back from a hamstring injury.

The top disposal-winner for the Suns was Darcy MacPherson, who had 21, along with 10 tackles.

Gold Coast was dominated after quarter-time to lose, 8.11 (59) to 27.8 (170).

Last year's No. 20 pick, Brayden Fiorini, picked up 19 touches.

Suns academy prospect Jack Bowes slotted three goals among his 10 disposals.

GWS

Another compelling game from Will Hoskin-Elliott will see him push hard for selection in the senior team next week, after the Giants were commanding victors, 27.8 (170) to 8.11 (59).

He notched up 31 disposals, six tackles and registered 1.2.

Matthew Kennedy (31 disposals and two goals), Jake Barrett (30 and three) and Adam Kennedy (30) were also prominent.

Four goals from Jacob Hopper, combined with 26 disposals, means Leon Cameron has no shortage of players to pick from.

Another to perform well was likely trade target Jack Steele, who also had 26 disposals to combine with three goals and eight tackles.

Defender Matt Buntine recorded 23 disposals as he bids to return to the senior team following a hamstring injury.

Hawthorn

Several Demons-listed players shared the spoils in the comprehensive 86-point win, with speedster Jay Kennedy-Harris impressing with four second-half goals from his 24 touches.

Midfielder Alex Neal-Bullen led the way on the stats sheet with a game-high 36 touches and a goal, joined in Casey's best alongside out-of-contract midfielder Jack Grimes (35 disposals, one goal) and Christian Salem (25, two).

Fellow ball-winners Jack Trengove (32 disposals), Viv Michie (31), Matt Jones (30) and Ben Kennedy (28) were in the thick of the action, while defender Lynden Dunn's aerial contests were also a highlight.

The Tigers had a host of positive talking points to come from the impressive 44-point victory over the Blues, the most notable being Ben Lennon, who recorded three goals and 12 marks in his return from an ankle injury.

Axed midfielder Kane Lambert responded in the perfect manner by bagging three first-half goals and accumulating an impressive 37 disposals (16 contested). 

Lambert’s exceptional performance should see him earn an immediate recall to the senior team. 

Forward Liam McBean proved a handful and booted four goals, while rebounding defender Nathan Broad (17 disposals, one goal) starred across half-back. 

Corey Ellis got through his first match in over six weeks unscathed after returning from a groin injury.

St Kilda

Key forward Paddy McCartin produced a dominant display in Sandringham’s 53-point win, booting five goals as he continued to build match fitness following a series of concussions.

The 2014 No.1 draft pick also plucked seven marks and conjured a terrific snap goal from a tight-angle to claim his fifth for the day. 

Utility Cam Shenton was equally impressive, shining in a forward role to boot a game-high six goals straight. 

The 25-year-old has previously been tried on the wing and as a rebounding defender for the Saints, but has excelled further up the ground for the Zebras. 

Shenton is yet to play a senior game this season after managing 10 in 2015. 

Josh Saunders (34 touches and two goals) and Jack Sinclair (33 possessions) led the charge through midfield, while injury-plagued recruit Nathan Freeman got through his third consecutive match unscathed.

Sydney Swans

Ted Richards kicked two goals as he attempts to regain a spot in the senior side for one last tilt at a premiership before he retires at season's end.

He also had 12 disposals, six marks and five tackles.

The Swans were dominant victors against the Lions, 24.16 (160) to 3.7 (25).

Ben McGlynn finished with 32 disposals, 11 marks, nine tackles and a goal, while Nic Newman racked up 39 disposals, 12 marks and two goals.

Jordan Foote (31 disposals) and rookie Colin O'Riordan (29) were also prominent.

Fellow rookie Sam Murray registered 4.4.

West Coast

Lewis Jetta's well-documented struggle to find form abated as the Eagles recruit collected 23 touches in his team's 36-point loss.

The 27-year-old also delivered the ball inside 50 four times which was his side's second-highest tally for the afternoon. 

Young forward Tom Lamb was a shining light up forward and ended with two goals to go with his 16 disposals.

Experienced defender Mitch Brown (seven marks and a goal) played further up the ground and worked tirelessly to provide a target, while big man Jonathan Giles (13 disposals, two goals) dominated in the ruck to be named among the best.

Western Bulldogs
