COACH Paul Roos says Melbourne will be respectful of Adelaide’s situation this Sunday at the MCG, as it's the one-year anniversary of former coach Phil Walsh’s tragic passing.

Roos said it was important the football community was respectful of the Walsh family, Adelaide and those who knew him.

“I’ve noticed and heard [Adelaide captain] Tex (Taylor Walker) talk about being respectful of the family,” he said.

“They’re being a bit more low-key than when they played their first game after what happened last year.

“We’ll be respectful of however they want to handle it and I think everyone is going to handle it differently in the community.

“I think [people] will be respectful as possible for the family.”

Meanwhile, Roos said senior assistant coach Simon Goodwin was comfortable remaining in the senior assistant coaching role until the end of this year.

Goodwin will take over from Roos as senior coach next year, but the 2005 Sydney Swans premiership coach spoke with the Adelaide great during the mid-season break to see if he was content in his position for the rest of 2016.

“[General manager of football operations] Josh [Mahoney] and I discussed it with him (Goodwin) last week and he’s really comfortable with the role and he's really looking forward to the next nine weeks and getting as much out of it,” he said.

“I'm really looking forward to the next nine weeks, understanding that we're still young and we’re still going to be a bit inconsistent, but our best footy is really good.

“Our challenge is to bring that every week ... and there is a lot of work for us during the week to get our team right on the weekend and remain a really competitive team that Melbourne supporters want to come and watch for the next nine weeks."
