CHRISTIAN Petracca says he felt a “real mix” of emotions after Melbourne’s shattering six-point loss to the West Coast Eagles at Domain Stadium on Saturday.

Petracca, who was one of Melbourne’s best in the loss with 19 disposals and a goal, said it was incredible to experience such a match. 

“It was a real mix [of emotions],” he told Melbourne TV.

“We should’ve won, but at the same time, the effort was there and there were a few critical moments when we could’ve used a simpler target and not rushed it.

“There were some free kicks we could’ve prevented that didn’t go our way, but I’m so proud of the boys.

“We put four quarters in, but the win would’ve been unbelievable.”

Petracca said the final quarter was simply chaotic.  

“It was pretty manic and every possession you have was real critical,” he said.

“Every possession needed to be spot and they used it a lot more efficiently in the last quarter.”

In just his 12^th AFL game, Petracca said he will take plenty from playing in front of a parochial crowd and intense game.  

“When West Coast got a run on, my communication dropped a bit,” he said.

“Just being a young guy, I’ve got to talk a lot more.

“They’re going to have run-ons – they’re a good team, a top four team and a Grand Final team last year, so they’re going to have their time when they kick a few goals. We’ve just had to maintain it.”
