IN 2017, which rising star has made the leap to join footy's elite?
We've selected this season's six leading contenders, and as part of the AFL.com.au Fan Awards we want you to choose who's enjoyed the finest breakout year.
The nominees are ...
Tom Mitchell
The former Swan has been the recruit of the year, replacing his namesake at the Hawks in outstanding fashion. Mitchell is a ball-magnet who has been a dominant force in the midfield this year and clearly relished being the centrepoint of his side.
Josh Kelly
The out-of-contract 22-year-old is in high demand from Victorian clubs for good reason. Kelly's stocks have continually risen throughout the year, with the midfielder rapidly coming into All Australian contention thanks to his ball-winning ability and consistent impact on the scoreboard.
Matt Crouch
Not only has Matt taken bragging rights as the best Crouch at the Crows, he has quickly become one of the best midfielders in the competition and has strong claims for his first All Australian selection.
Joe Daniher
The return of several key teammates this season has allowed the Bombers star to blossom into the powerful forward he always threatened to become. His agility and marking prowess is remarkable for his 201cm frame, and he is sure to be a force to be reckoned with for years to come.
Clayton Oliver
In just his second year, Oliver has emerged as one of the elite midfielders in the competition. He is a contested-ball beast and is as tough as they come, though criticism for exaggerating a strike from Eagle Will Schofield put his reputation temporarily under threat.
Elliot Yeo
The key strength of this smooth-moving Eagle is his versatility, as coach Adam Simpson could put him anywhere on the park and know it will pay off. Yeo's aerial ability has also been a highlight of his improvement this year, and he is sure to be in the mix for All Australian selection.
