THE AFL will consider having an extended finals series for the NAB AFL Women's competition from 2018. 

This year will see the eight teams play each other once in the home and away season before the top two sides compete in the Grand Final. 

AFL manager of game development Simon Lethlean told News Corp that could change next year.

"I guess we'll see how things pan out in the next four weeks and if we think 1 v 2 straight into the Grand Final is not the right way to go then maybe a 1 v 4 and 2 v 3 to qualify might be a project for next year," Lethlean said.

"But we'll see how it goes in the remaining four weeks and we can always look at adding a different finals structure if we wanted to."

At the start round four, Adelaide and the Brisbane Lions were on track to make the decider. The Lions beat Greater Western Sydney on Saturday while the Crows will play Fremantle on Sunday.
