THIS round’s NAB AFL Women’s Rising Star nominee Katherine Smith says her dashing performance out of the backline against the Adelaide Crows at TIO Stadium last round was her best game yet for Melbourne.
Smith, who shared the round six accolade with Collingwood’s Brittany Bonnici, said it was “quite an honour” to join fellow Melbourne teammates Lily Mithen and Jasmine Grierson as a Rising Star nominee.
“We’ve had some great Rising Stars in the past with Lily and Jas, so to follow in their footsteps is really good,” she told melbournefc.com.au.
“It’s a reflection on the whole team and how they’re doing to have three Rising Stars.”
Smith said Melbourne’s thrilling win over Adelaide was the best victory she’s tasted so far in the red and blue.
“It was incredible. Being in Darwin, it was a different climate and the way we had to prepare,” she said.
“It was a very tough game and we knew it was going to be brutal, so to hear that final siren at the end, it was a relief.
“There was a huge buzz in the rooms and it was probably the loudest we’ve sung the song.”
