LIAM Jurrah says it will be a different feeling watching his former team this weekend.
Jurrah, who was one of the most exciting players to burst on the AFL scene in recent years, returned to Melbourne this week for the club’s Reconciliation Action Plan launch.
He said he couldn’t wait to watch his team play against Port Adelaide at the MCG on Saturday, but hinted that he still would’ve loved to be playing in the red and blue.
“It’s going to be a bit different, sitting down in the stands with the rest of the supporters and cheering on the mighty Dees. I’m going to be there watching the boys play and cheering them on,” he told Melbourne TV.
“I reflect on the games – I just loved playing footy and putting the excitement out there on the MCG – it brings back a lot of memories, which is really great.
“I don’t really miss the weather. It’s been cold up in Central Australia and in Melbourne it’s been really cold. I can’t complain about it, but I haven’t missed the weather.”
Jurrah said catching up with former teammates was one of the most pleasing aspects of his trip to Melbourne.
“It’s good to be back and it was good catching up with the old teammates, ‘Chunky’ Nathan Jones, Max Gawn, Colin Garland and Jack Viney,” he said.
“It’s good to catch up with the footy.”
Jurrah is playing for South Alice Springs in Central Australia and said he still loved playing.
“I’m just enjoying myself playing footy every week and just love having fun every weekend,” he said.
“I do kick a few goals every week and I’m sitting second on the leading goalkicker.
“I’ve kicked 27, but I missed the game last week and will again this weekend, so I’ll play again in a couple of weeks.”
