JORDAN Lewis says he couldn’t have asked for a better build-up and win to celebrate his 300th AFL match.
Although he has tasted greater honours in his decorated career – including four AFL premierships with Hawthorn – Lewis said he was rapt how it turned out for his triple hundred.
“It’s been really good,” he told Melbourne Media after the Demons defeated Adelaide Crows by 13 points at Adelaide Oval.
“The club and myself sat down at the end of last week and just mapped out the media plan. I wanted everything out of the road early on in the week, so I could just concentrate on my football.
“I wanted [people] to understand that it wasn’t really about me. We had Dom Tyson playing 100 games and you mightn’t think it’s as significant as 300 games, but it’s a really good milestone.
“So, for us to come out with a really good win is very pleasing. It certainly makes it more memorable and you certainly wouldn’t want to lose a milestone game. The guys really put in.”
Lewis said he was chuffed to have close mates Nathan Jones and Max Gawn chair him off the ground after the win.
But overall, he was pleased to see his side bounce back, following its heartbreaking loss to Geelong, after the final siren, at GMHBA Stadium in round 18.
“It’s certainly a lot better feeling than last week – I can tell you that,” he said.
“We were challenged at certain periods of the night. We were 20 points down [early in the match] and they had all of the momentum, but our second quarter, we pegged that lead back and then the third quarter, we set the game up.
“Then we went in with a little bit of a lead at three quarter-time, but they came at us and they had their chances. I think [we put into place] a little bit of the lessons we learned last week – certainly taking time out of the clock worked.
“To put some of those things into practice gives us really good belief.”
