MELBOURNE fans will be hearing a familiar song in 2018, after the club decided to retain the original version of “It’s a Grand Old Flag”.

Melbourne was one of 15 clubs to have its song re-recorded by the AFL to improve sound quality, but it didn’t feel the need to adopt the latest rendition at this time.

Recorded back in 1972 by the Fable Singers, the original version is loved and familiar among fans, and the club understood the importance in keeping with tradition.

Melbourne will kick off its season this Sunday when it takes on Geelong, giving fans the first chance to get along to the MCG and hear the team song in 2018.
