CASEY assistant coach Mark Wheatley has been added to the coaching panel for the upcoming Young Guns games.
Wheatley will join the coaching panel, under VFL coaching great Gerard FitzGerald, who will oversee the program.
Wheatley works at a bakery, is studying at Chisholm (one of Casey’s sponsors) and won the 2017 clubman of the year.
The Young Guns matches will be played as curtain-raisers to the following VFL matches:
- Saturday, May 5: Werribee v Collingwood, Chirnside Park, 2pm
- Saturday May 26: Port Melbourne v Casey Demons, North Port Oval, 11am
- Saturday, June 30: Port Melbourne v Sandringham, North Port Oval, 11am
Players aged 21 years or younger will play in the three-match series.
AFL Victoria views this an opportunity for younger players to press their claims, given the AFL Victoria Development League has been scrapped.
Players will be selected from VFL teams, 19-year-olds on TAC Cup lists and prospects from country and suburban leagues.
