MAX Gawn is now tied for second on the AFL Coaches Association’s Champion Player of the Year leaderboard, after polling six votes in Melbourne’s clash against the Gold Coast Suns at the Gabba on Saturday.

Gawn was judged among his side’s best collecting 41 hit outs and 18 disposals, with the performance ticking his season total over to 40 votes.

The ruckman moved up the leaderboard to sit alongside the Western Bulldogs’ Jack Macrae, while Fremantle’s Nat Fyfe remains at the top with 48 votes.

Key tall Tom McDonald polled the most for the Demons (nine votes) in round eight, after kicking five goals and finishing with 17 disposals.

Melbourne’s two leading possession-getters in James Harmes (33 disposals) and Clayton Oliver (29 disposals) collected six votes each, while Christian Salem received two votes. Jordan Lewis also received a vote.
