MELBOURNE co-captain Jack Viney has the belief his side can bounce straight back in 2020, despite a poor showing this season.
“It’s been frustrating but everybody at the club is 100 percent committed to the journey and believe that we’re on the right track,” Viney said on SEN Breakfast on Thursday morning.
“The foundations are there to continue to build.”
The Demons haven’t been able to follow up on their 2018 efforts, but the 25-year-old doesn’t believe that’s due to a lack of effort.
“It hasn’t been a step off the gas in terms of the standards we’ve set for ourselves and the behaviours we’ve wanted to display every day,” Viney said.
“It’s just one of those things where the game is so hard and if you slip for a split second it’s pretty hard to catch up on.”
Although the Dees have managed just five wins to Round 19, Viney has seen enough behind closed doors to predict an immediate response next year.
“I think we’ve got the right game plan,” he said.
“It definitely will get reviewed at the end of the year and will get tinkered with here and there, but fundamentally we’re on the right path and I think everyone’s very confident in that.”
It has been a difficult year in multiple ways for the red and blue, but the playing group isn’t looking to make excuses, they just want to get back to their best.
“We’ve faced a lot of challenges this year. We haven’t quite got the chemistry and it hasn’t quite clicked,” Viney said.
“So we’re constantly trying to find the right answers and get us back on track.”
