MELBOURNE stalwart Nathan Jones is set to reach a significant individual milestone against the Gold Coast Suns this weekend.
When the Demons’ skipper takes to Metricon Stadium on Saturday afternoon, he will be playing his 272nd AFL game for the club, drawing level with the late great Robbie Flower.
Flower also captained the Dees, representing the club between 1973 and 1987 where he become a beloved figure before tragically passing away in 2014, aged 59.
Jones will now be equal-second on the list for most games played by a Melbourne player, trailing by just 34 matches to David Neitz who ran out in the red and blue on 306 occasions.
The gutsy on-baller has been an integral part of the club throughout his 14-year career to date, after being drafted to Melbourne with pick No.12 in the 2005 National Draft.
The 31-year-old is a three-time Keith ‘Bluey’ Truscott Medallist (2012, 2013, 2014) and has captained the Dees for the past six seasons.
In other milestone news, Jake Melksham is set to play his 50th game in the red and blue (164th overall), since crossing over from Essendon at the end of the 2015 season.
