WHEN Sam Frost picks up the ball at half-back and uses his dashing pace, you never quite know what to expect.
The versatile defender has a thumping right boot and can hit a 50-metre target lace out.
But with the good comes the bad, and he’s the first to admit his rebounds don’t always go to plan.
“It’s a pretty unique kind of ball movement I suppose,” Frost said on the club’s Inside Melbourne podcast.
“It’s a bit random and unpredictable, even to myself.”
After Frost’s flare was at its finest during the Demons’ Round 14 win over Fremantle, senior coach Simon Goodwin gave the disposal a name; ‘Frost-Ball’.
“It’s hard to really define it, which I think is why he (Goodwin) just calls it ‘Frost-Ball’ and everyone knows what he’s talking about,” Frost said.
And as much as Frost would love to control each and every kick, he said sometimes the floaters just happen, and he doesn’t know how.
“When you run that quick you don’t really know much about what’s going on,” he said.
“I have no idea to be honest.”
While ‘Frost-Ball’ has only been brought to the fans’ attention recently, it has been well discussed within the club’s four walls, and Frost, a bubbly character, has no issue with the running gag.
“I think internally it’s been a thing for a little while,” he said.
“He likes to joke and laugh about it.
“I found it pretty funny when he said it in the presser – I thought it was good.
“You just hope there’s more positive outcomes than negatives with the ‘Frost-Ball’.”
