MELBOURNE'S training session was halted for several minutes on Tuesday when draftee Mitch Hannan had his two front teeth knocked out.
The 22-year-old came off second best in a drill when he copped a stray elbow from a teammate towards the end of the session.
Demons officials, coaches and even a few players searched for around 20 minutes trying to find Hannan's teeth, out on the ground, without luck.
Out-of-favour forward Jack Watts, who was one of the players searching for the missing teeth, did extra contested work after training as he bids to win his place back in Melbourne's side.
The Demons trained for around two hours in warm conditions out at Casey Fields and there were plenty of willing players cracking in and trying to impress coach Simon Goodwin and the rest of the match committee.
Star forward Jesse Hogan received treatment on his left hip, which is part of his ongoing management, and rookie Joel Smith left the field with a sore right foot before returning a few minutes later.
Watts, who has not been selected for the Demons' two JLT Community Series games, has taken significant strides in his training standards in the past fortnight and looked more engaged throughout the session.
That theme continued at the end of training when Watts worked with assistant coaches Troy Chaplin and Ben Matthews on contested marking before following up to win the ball on the ground.
Watts would fly for the ball on top of the 'speccy bag' and then follow up and win the footy under pressure, from the coaches with buffeting bags, immediately after contesting the mark.
The mobile forward is hoping to break into a side that has won its past two pre-season games against the Western Bulldogs and Carlton; the two victories highlighting the Demons' improved depth.
Clayton Oliver, Jack Trengove, Angus Brayshaw and Billy Stretch were among the standouts at training on Tuesday morning.
Melbourne plays West Coast at Domain Stadium on March 9 in its final dress rehearsal ahead of a round one match-up against St Kilda on March 25.
