SAM Frost says Melbourne’s confidence has grown to the point that it can match any team on any given day.
The key defender said Melbourne’s outstanding 29-point win over Hawthorn at the MCG on Saturday showed that the red and blue could take it up to any side in the competition.
“We really want to push for more wins, because we’ve got the belief now that we can beat anyone we come up against,” he told Melbourne TV.
“[We want] to take some momentum into next year and just really fulfill that belief that we can take on anyone.”
Although recruited to Melbourne at the end of 2014 as a defender, where he played with Greater Western Sydney, Frost spent much of his first season and the early part of 2016 as a forward/ruckman for the red and blue.
But a return down back in the second half of this season has seen him build his game promisingly, with his bursts out of the backline becoming a noticeable – and important – part of his game.
Frost said he still had plenty of development in his game, but was growing in confidence.
“It’s (my form) been OK. I had a lot to learn, moving from the forward line to the backline again. I played there in the past, but [I’ve] still had to pick it up,” he said.
“It’s been good. The coaches have been really positive with me and I’m still making a lot of mistakes, but trying to make less and less each week.
“I’m focusing a lot on the positives in my game, so it’s been good and it’s challenging, but I’m really enjoying my time [in the backline].”
Frost said playing fast and attacking football suited his game.
“We want to play fearless football and take the game on, and that’s a bit of a strength of mine at times,” he said.
“Hunty (Jayden Hunt) has been doing the same thing, so it just comes down to the polish and decision-making, but you’re trying to be aggressive and attacking with it.”
