BERNIE Vince needs to eradicate the undisciplined acts from his game that keep getting him suspended, Melbourne co-captain Nathan Jones says.
Vince was banned for two weeks by the Match Review Panel on Monday for striking Adelaide's Eddie Betts during Saturday night's loss to the Crows in Darwin.
The 31-year-old was also fined $1000 for making forceful front-on contact on Richard Douglas.
It's the third time that Vince, recast as a tagger in recent seasons at the Demons, has fallen foul of the MRP for striking in the past two years.
Speaking on RSN radio on Tuesday morning, Jones said the former Crow needed to show more discipline and stop hurting the team with his unavailability.
"He really does need to smarten himself up," Jones said.
"It's happened far too often with him over the past 12-18 months, he's been (suspended) too many times.
"It's frustrating for us because he's a very important player to us."
While condemning the actions of his teammate, Jones believed Vince didn't set out to deliberately injure opponents, and put it down to "white-line fever".
"He's not out there to recklessly hurt anyone, but he does fire himself up, there's no doubt about that," Jones said.
"He's just a got a tendency to lift his arm and swing his arm.
"He's one of the absolute nice guys off the field and he's a ripping fella, but when he gets out on the field he definitely plays right on the edge.
"He got to have a good think about it, and tidy up those errant elbows or errant arms that have cost him in the past."
