JAI CULLEY will call Melbourne home in 2025, with the 22-year-old offered a spot on the Demons’ AFL list.
The former Eagle, who has played 12 games at the top level, earns his opportunity via the pre-season supplemental selection period, which was extended by the AFL on Monday.
An inside midfielder, Culley has trained with the Demons across the pre-season, simultaneously signing with the club’s VFL-affiliate Casey.
AFL List Manager Tim Lamb shared his excitement in welcoming Culley to the red and blue.
“We have followed Jai closely, both before and after he was drafted to West Coast. We were thrilled to secure his services at Casey for the upcoming VFL season after his time at the Eagles finished at the end of 2024,” Lamb said.
“In his time with us, training with Casey and in match simulations with our AFL program, Jai has been super impressive and shown enough to suggest he thoroughly deserves a spot on our AFL list. He is still young at 22 years of age, and we feel he has a lot of growth in all areas of his game.
“We are excited to welcome Jai to the club, and we look forward to seeing him develop with us.”
Culley was first selected by West Coast in the 2022 Mid-Season Draft, making his debut in Round 18 of the same year. He earned a rising star nomination as a forward in just his seventh game.
The Victorian’s shot in the new colours comes after the club was approved to add an additional player to its list, following a season-ending ACL injury to Andy Moniz-Wakefield hours after closure of the pre-season supplemental signing window.
Moniz-Wakefield, who sustained the injury in Melbourne’s match simulation against North Melbourne on Saturday, was moved to the inactive list on Monday, creating opportunity for Culley.
Culley joins Jack Henderson in recent additions to the Dees’ list, just 20 days out from Melbourne’s season-opener against GWS on Sunday 16 March.
