Melbourne Football Club is pleased to announce its AFL leaders for 2025, with Max Gawn named as captain for the upcoming season.

Gawn, who first earned the honour in 2020, will once again be supported by Jack Viney in the role of vice-captain, marking the sixth consecutive year the pair have been at the helm.

The duo will be strengthened by a mix of senior players and emerging leaders, who will continue to drive standards and provide mentorship across the program.

Gawn is highly respected by the Demons’ players, coaches and staff, largely thanks to his leadership both on and off the field.

His accomplishments, as a six-time All-Australian and two-time Keith ‘Bluey’ Truscott Memorial Trophy winner, are reflective of his commitment, while his genuine care and support for others is par excellence.

The 224-gamer is just as loved by the Demon faithful, with mutual appreciation over his 16-year journey to date.

“It’s always an honour to be recognised by your teammates and coaches, particularly as a leader,” Gawn said.

“For them to value my style, and to have their continued trust and respect, is not something I take lightly. I love this club, and take a lot of pride in having the opportunity to lead this team, alongside Jack.

“Jack and I have built a strong partnership over the past six years together. We challenge each other, and those around us, as we both know what is required to be the team we want to be.

“We are excited by the task ahead, and look forward to getting our season underway in three weeks’ time.”

For Viney, this year will mark a decade as a formal leader of the club, indicative of his professionalism, never-give-in attitude and deep connections to the playing group.

The trusted pair will open Melbourne’s campaign on Sunday 16 March, when the Demons meet GWS at the MCG.
