FOUR of Melbourne’s young cohort have been recognised for their 2024 seasons, selected in the AFL Players’ Association 22Under22 Squad.

Eliza McNamara, Tahlia Gillard, Maeve Chaplin and Alyssa Bannan all feature in the extended side of 44 players.

McNamara has earned the selection after a career-best campaign where she registered top numbers including an average of 22 disposals, seven intercepts and five marks.

Gillard and Chaplin have been named in the backline, two key Demons that have stood strong in the defence this year.

Both defenders were among the best in the league, Chaplin averaging close to seven intercepts while Gillard averaged a league-high six spoils.

Bannan represents the red and blue up forward after another campaign that saw the youngster impress inside 50. She kicked 12 goals across her 11 games including a four-goal haul during Week 8.

To be eligible for the squad, the players must be aged 22 and under and have played a minimum of five games.

While the squad was chosen via an internal selection panel, the final team is a fan-voted concept, with Dees supporters encouraged to get behind the four demons named.
