MELBOURNE AFL Vice-Captain Jack Viney has secured his future with the Dees, signing a new deal until the end of 2028.

The 30-year-old, who was already locked in until the end of next season, put pen to paper on Tuesday, pledging his allegiance to the red and blue.

The much-loved Viney spoke to the decision to remain at the club he has called home for the past 12 seasons.

“I’m a Demon for life – I always have been, and always will be,” Viney said.

“I love my teammates, my coaches, the staff and the passionate Dees fans. I have created some incredibly special memories and relationships over the past decade, and I couldn’t see myself wearing anything but the red and blue.

I am committed to the journey we’re on, and want nothing more than to bring further success to the Melbourne faithful.”

Viney, who first joined Melbourne as a father-son draft selection in 2012, made his AFL debut in 2013 and has gone on to achieve an impressive amount across his 218-game career to date.

A Keith ‘Bluey’ Truscott Memorial Trophy winner in 2016, Viney co-captained the club from 2017 to 2019 and has made the vice-captaincy role his own in the years since. This season marked his ninth as a formal leader.

“Jack is a heart and soul player of our football club,” Melbourne AFL List Manager Tim Lamb said.

“He has been a passionate Melbourne person since day dot, and to have him commit to the club for another four years is exciting for our players and supporters alike.

Jack’s influence, both on and off the field, is invaluable. He plays with hunger and heart, bringing a ruthless edge to every single contest. He leads from the front, and does so with great integrity.

“It’s pretty special to have seen Jack develop into the person, player and leader that he is today, and we look forward to him building on this further in years to come.”

The news of Viney’s re-signing follows that of Captain Max Gawn’s, who locked in his future earlier this week. The two have been at the helm together since 2020.
