The Casey Demons wrapped up their 2024 Smithy’s VFL home and away season with a challenging match against a dominant Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium.

The first quarter was a tightly contested affair, with Casey trailing by just one point at the first break. However, the Suns began to assert their dominance in the second quarter, with Jack Lukosius and Rory Atkins leading the charge as they pulled away on the scoreboard.

Ben Brown was a standout for the Demons, making his presence felt with six goals, demonstrating his ability to capitalise on opportunities under the bright Gold Coast sun.

Shane McAdam also contributed significantly with four goals, but despite their efforts, the Suns' onslaught was too much to overcome.

Taj Woewodin worked tirelessly around the ball, accumulating 13 disposals, three tackles, and a well-earned goal for his efforts.

Meanwhile, Roy George and Tom Fullarton each managed to slot a goal, but the Demons’ total of 13 goals was far from enough to keep pace with the Suns' 27-goal blitz.

In the backline, Andy Moniz-Wakefield was Casey’s top performer, racking up an impressive 35 disposals, nine marks, three tackles, and a clearance.

His efforts were complemented by Mitch White’s hard work in the midfield, where he gathered 25 disposals, 14 handballs, four tackles, and four clearances in an attempt to direct play and move the ball forward.

Kynan Brown quietly contributed in the midfield with 21 disposals, three tackles, and five clearances, while Bailey Laurie added 20 disposals, seven marks, and five clearances to his name.

Charlie Peters was a consistent presence around the ball, fighting hard with 18 disposals, five tackles, and five clearances.

Despite these individual performances, the Demons were unable to maintain their intensity in the second half, adding only five goals while the Suns piled on 16 more.

This defeat marked the end of Casey’s season. As the Demons reflect on their season, they will look to rebuild and come back stronger in 2025.
