MELBOURNE’S Round 7 clash at the MCG saw Daniel Turner re-enter his name in the minds of Dees fans.

Instead of being known for his defensive efforts, he instead wrote a new chapter in his football history, kicking three goals on the ANZAC Eve stage.

With fans initially surprised at his move to the opposite end of the ground, 11 weeks in and Turner’s quickly become a consistent cog in the club’s forward machine.

“I'm enjoying it a lot,” Turner said of his move to the forward line.

“It was a bit of a fresh start and it's a tough sort of thing to do, to transition, but people like Greg Stafford, Harry Petty, Bayley Fritsch, Jake Melksham, they've been huge for me in my transition, making it very smooth.

“Jacob van Rooyen as well, he’s been massive for me because it's not easy.

I feel like I've slotted in alright down there, so it's very good.”

At just 22 years old and in his new role as a forward, Turner has kicked eight goals across eight games in addition to his impact aerially, having averaged four marks a match.

While the Demon is already impressing inside 50, Turner wants to keep developing into the best footballer he can be.

“I just want to play good, consistent footy at AFL level,” Turner said.

“I just want to be the best teammate I can be as well.

“Definitely a goal for the rest of this year is do whatever I can to help us play finals, I feel like we're building towards something special, we've got the group to do it.”

In news that delighted Dees fans on Thursday afternoon, the exciting footy that Turner has been producing will remain in the red and blue for the next two years, the forward signing on until the end of 2026.

“I'm absolutely stoked. I love the club. I love all the boys here, the staff,” Turner said.

It's an absolute privilege to be on for another two years.

“The group we've got here, I get along with everyone so well.

“We're building something very special, we got a lot of experience and a lot of youth in the team.

“I couldn't see myself anywhere else, so it was a pretty easy decision once I got around to it.”
