MICHAEL Hibberd says the banter with his former Essendon teammates has already started in the lead-up to Sunday’s clash against the Bombers at Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
Hibberd said he had already heard from good mate, Bomber Michael Hurley.
“Don’t listen to a word he says, he lies,” Hibberd said with a laugh.
Hibberd will play his second match for Melbourne and first against his ex-team this round after arguably being the red and blue’s best against Richmond at the MCG on ANZAC Day Eve – his comeback match.
Hibberd said it was great to be playing again after a forced year out of the game.
“I felt pretty comfortable – the game didn’t go past me, so it was good,” he said at AAMI Park on Thursday.
“It was a big build up, emotionally and into the game – 18 months out and it was a relief to actually be able to play and perform quite well.
“I’m not sure how the game changes every year – it gets quicker and harder, so to come back and not feel too out of place was good.”
Meanwhile, Hibberd said the club would support teammate Jesse Hogan following the passing of father, Tony.
“It’s a tough time for Jesse and his family. All of the players and the whole club is rallying behind him and our thoughts are with him – it’s surely a tough time for him and his family,” he said.
“We’ll just give him time to grieve with his family.”
