ALLY Kirkwood has once again been selected to lead the VFLW Demons in 2024, with the 27-year-old assuming the position for the second time.
Selected by teammates and coaching staff, Kirkwood first took up a leadership position in 2022 as Vice-Captain.
Described by peers as the “beating heart” of the club, Kirkwood is a versatile player who is often the difference in close games.
Kirkwood will be supported in 2024 by Meg Macdonald as Vice-Captain.
The classy midfielder brings 23 games of AFLW experience from Richmond, and has been a much-loved member of the Demons’ side since 2021.
Sarah D’Arcy, Shree Fairchild and Tegan Williams make up the rest of the five-player group, who will lead from the front in season 2024.
D’Arcy, who has played 43 matches at AFLW level with Collingwood and Richmond, is one of the most experienced players at Casey.
Fairchild is a favourite for the Demon faithful, winning the 2023 Best and Fairest Award.
Notching up her 50th game in season 2023 alongside captain Ally Kirkwood, Fairchild is well-known for her fierce competitiveness and blistering tackles.
Williams, at only 20, is one of the up-and-comers of the league.
With strong footy IQ and versatility, Williams excels in contested marking competitions.
